Explanation of Samsung Model numbering logic

The logic behind Samsung's TV model Numbering system can be explained using the Samsung TV model number UN55F8000AFXZA as the example. We have broken down this example Samsung TV model into a table with a numerical position to the order that each of the letter or number in the samsung model appears. So the first letter 'U' in the example will be under '1' and the second letter 'N' will be under '2' and so on. This is to make it easy to explain what each letter or number in the Samsung TV Model number represents.

In the table below we explain what each of the letter or number in the corresponding order in the Samsung TV model Number means

What each alphabet or number in Samsung TV model Number means

Note-1
Samsung started the standard model code numbering system for their TVs in 2008 and the first Samsung models in 2008 were the 'A' series which were followed by B, C, D, E etc. as follows:

Following the above model coding Samsung should have 2015 model numbers starting with 'I', but they skipped letters 'I' and 'J' and jumped to the letter 'K'. Skipping the letter 'I' obviously had to do with the confusion that would have arisen from letter 'I' and the number '1' being almost identical. The skipping of the letter 'J' could have been due to the same reason that they skipped the letter 'G' in the 2014 model. The 2014 models should have been the "G" series, but Samsung has skipped the letter "G" in their Model numbering system and gone on to "H" series. No official explanation is given, but it is generally held that the letter "G" sounds similar to a Japanese or Korean four letter word. The same reason for skipping letter 'J' for 2015 models I presume.

Note-2
In Samsung LED TVs of model year 2012 and 2013 an additional letter 'ES' or 'EH' wass included after the year to indicate a 'SLIM' or 'HYBRID' LED model. Examples of these model numbers are UN40EH5300 and UN46ES6500

What Samsung Clear Motion Rate CMR means

Samsung's Clear Motion Rate or CMR is an index of how good the motion blur reduction effects on a fast moving scene is. The higher the Clear Motion Rate or CMR the better the TV is, with less blurring in fast moving scenes. The equivalent of Samsung's Clear Motion Rate or CMR in LG TV is 'Motion Clarity Index' or MCI. In other TV makes the equivalent of Samsung's Clear Motion Rate or CMR in Sony TV it is 'Motionflow XR'; in Philips TV it is 'Perfect Motion Rate' or PMR, in Toshiba TV it is 'Active Motion Rate' or AMR and in Panasonic TV it is '360 Back Light Scanning' or 360 BLS.

Samsung's Clear Motion Rate CMR is not the same as Refresh Rate, but it is a value based on the combination of advanced backlighting technology like 'strobe' back light technology, Panel Refresh Rate, Local Dimming, processor speed, etc. A higher CMR figure means a better TV with better motion blur reduction benefits. So in summary Samsung's Clear Motion Rate or CMR is a measure of how good a TV can handle fast moving scenes to avoid motion blur. The higher the Clear Motion Rate of a Samsung TV the better it is.

The advantage of Micro Dimming Ultimate is the ability of the backlights to come on and off to exactly match the bright and dark areas of the picture and also to get the timing to exactly match the picture frame by frame.
